I use only the best quality hardwoods sourced as locally as possible, making use of a small family-run sawmill that specializes in timber from the North of England and Scotland. Whenever I can, I get involved with the extraction process, enjoying claiming green oak from local wind-fallen trees. When specific foreign timber, such as maple, is required, I only buy from sustainably managed forests in Europe and Northern America. Reclaimed and recycled materials have provided me with added interest and I have been happy to receive from clients an oak cider barrel and an inherited mahogany bed-head to transform into new tables. Other materials I occasionally use alongside wood include marine-grade stainless steel, toughened glass and Lake District slate. |
